Change One Life. Save One Life.

lone warrior is excited to present our very 1st lifestyle assistance fund recipient

nisha smith!

Nisha is a lovely mother of two beautiful daughters, currently battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma, with a tumor in her left lung and 5 or 6 cancerous lymph nodes throughout her body. Our Lone Warrior Founder, Rob Chumbook, and three of our Board Members had the honor of sitting beside her as the Lifestyle Assistance Fund allowed us to pay $500 of Nisha’s bills! It doesn’t end there though…follow our journey to find out how Lone Warrior can continue helping beautiful Warrior’s like Nisha!

Thank you to everyone who has believed in the development of the Lone Warrior Foundation and who has made our Lifestyle Assistance Fund possible!

DAN HOARD

Dan Hoard, also known as Dana Hoard

Dan was diagnosed with a rare and very aggressive cancer, anaplastic thyroid carcinoma, in March of 2023. He goes to Mayo for his treatments He has a feeding tube. He has lost a lot of weight since his diagnosis; approximately 85lbs and has undergone surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. Currently, there is nothing else Mayo can do to treat Dan. He is doing much better, since mid-July. He’s trying to see if his vocal cords will allow him to eat food, without aspirating the food, instead of relying on a feeding tube.

Dan is a single father of two boys, Daniel (17) and Davis (12). He has raised his two boys for a number of years, as the primary custodian of his sons.

Dan and the boys really enjoy traveling, especially the East Coast of the US. Their favorite place is Gatlinburg, TN. Otherwise, the boys enjoy gaming.

Dan owns his own business, an irrigation business in McClenny, FL called Irrigtion Doc LLC. He has been a single business owner since 1981. Unfortunately, since his diagnosis, Dan has not been able to work his business.

Dan was introduced to Lone Warrior Foundation in June 2023. Lara S., his patient navigator, at Mayo, referred Dan to our foundation. Unfortunately, Dan lost his battle to cancer late October 2023. In his honor, we have established The Dan Hoard Memorial fund for those who wish to donate which will go directly to the care for his two surviving sons.

RACHAEL MILLER

My name is Rachael Miller and I am a single mother of a beautiful daughter, Selah. I was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in September and moved into treatment right away starting at the beginning of October 2022.

I was working as a emergency nurse at Flagler Hospital when I was told I would be in treatment for at least a year and that it would require intensive chemotherapy, surgery, radiation and targeted immune therapy to follow.

I was diagnosed with triple positive, locally advanced cancer in my right breast and several lymph nodes. I would like to say I started the journey fully unafraid and confident but I was in fact terrified.

Living alone with my daughter put immense pressure on me as a provider. Even more so, the pressure on her to care for me on those days and weeks when I could not care of myself were crippling. There were days following chemo when I could hardly pull myself out of bed and walk to the bathroom alone. I have watched my daughter rise into the caretaker position and fully without fear, cook for me, care for me and fully handle me in this messy vulnerable state.

We both made the change to a strictly vegan diet when I received the diagnoses. I have also been working closely with Dr. Dawn Musselium who is the integrative medicine doctor at Mayo Clinic Breast Center and Stage 4 Cancer survivor herself. She has helped me combine holistic and eastern modalities along with western medicine.

I just completed 16 cycles of radiation and now I am receiving targeted immune therapy once every 3 weeks.

I am feeling pretty good lately and I hope to get back in the gym, restore some strength and get back to work soon as possible. I am looking for ways to help others and give back to those facing the same scary nightmare.

Thankful for another opportunity to provide for our 1st Lifestyle Assistance Fund recipient!

Your donations have allowed us to help pay a few of Nisha’s bills and purchase a couple weeks of groceries as she is currently in Active Cancer Treatment.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Lone Warrior and made this possible!
